A sleepy village nestled at the end of Eidsfjorden, known as the mecca of the fjord horse because of its long standing horse traditions. With stallion shows being held in the town since 1886, today there is an active community of horse owners. We arrived on a Sunday and a popular themed question that day was “What do you do when everything is shut..”
Shops being closed stumps a lot of people, however, the vast walks available in Nordfjordeid were breathtaking.
The walk we chose to do was known as the Romantic Viewpoint of Nordfjordeid, following the trail of Tortenholvarden mountain. The walk encounters multiple waterfalls and meandering streams.
As we summited to the top of Fossane we were greeted by Norwegian lodges, the ever-changing Norweigan weather brought in the mist. We attempted to shelter behind one of the lodges and we suddenly heard a call from a local offering us shelter in their home. A local showing their true Norwegian hospitality at its best.
The weather brightened up and we descended into Nordfjordeid, stopping off at Utsikta viewpoint and taking in the views of Aurora in the background. A final stop was made at the Eid Church within the village before heading back to the ship.
