What a busy day we’ve had exploring the city of Helsinki, the afternoon provided us with sunshine and warmth.
Our highlights of the day:
Helsinki Upsenki Cathedral, we were very lucky to see a christening and felt honoured to be there and witness such an intimate occasion. The Cathedral was certainly breathtaking with detail everywhere you look, entry to the Orthodox Cathedral is free and a must see destination.
Sightseeing the architecture, if you have been to Helsinki you’ll certainly agree that the architecture reminds you that you’re definitely away from home. Around every corner you will experience something new something different and certainly something breathtaking. We let our legs lead the way and discovered some stunning locations in this beautiful city.
Senate square. A neoclassical architecture surrounds a scenic public square, great for a spot of people watching and taking in the atmosphere.
There are countless statutes that are nestled in Helsinki with many that can be found by the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma and The Parliament House.
If you walk towards the gardens you will be greeted by scenic parks and lakes providing a breather from the city.
Helsinki Central Library Oodi.
A modern abstract building from the outside,an ultra-modern
library with robots, 3D printers,
sewing stations and many more modern
stations to see within the library. Finland has got it right with it's engagement with modern technology and availability to all, maybe something the UK should look at.
Helsinki was everything and more, we certainly made the most of our time exploring the city. From pristine beaches to a modern city with beautiful architecture, the people of Finland were so welcoming, no wonder they are the happiest people in the world.
