Aarhus Denmark - The City Of Smiles.

Updated: Oct 20

Created by 3GoExploring.

We spent 24 hours in Aarhus and here’s what we got up to…

Aarhus Denmark at night

We kicked off our adventure last night by

jumping into the heart of the city and took

in the sights of the Aarhus food,

cultural and sports festival.

The whole town was alive with music and

restaurants roaring with energy.

Salling shopping centre has its own rooftop sky gardens, providing you with panoramic views of the city – for free! For the brave you are able to walk out on an observation deck and look down to the street below through a glass floor.

We rested in Molleparken, listening to a live Danish band taking in the atmosphere. With temperatures still in the low 20’s the park was full of people socialising and doing what the Danish seem to do so well “smiling and being happy”. From here we moved on through the city centre, the streets were packed with revelers enjoying the festival music spilled out from pubs, restaurants and local performers.

Aarhus Denmark waterfront

Making our way back to the waterfront we sat and watched the wakeboarders performing stunts in the harbour. This area known as Aarhus water sports complex is an ideal location for the water enthusiast, all types of water sport equipment is available for hire and the area is inundated with restaurants and watering holes.

A slow walk back to the ship via the town centre

taking the atmosphere was a great end to our evening.

Another warm day is forecasted, setting foot off the ship at 10am we headed out of the city along the waterfront, our first destination was Marselisborg Deer Park.

Marselisborg Deer Park

This park is a free nature animal park with roaming boar and deer set in 22 hectares, picnic benches are doted throughout where you can sit and watch the deer’s amble past you. Continuing on we passed through the Kirkeskov National Forest heading to Marselisborg Castle the summer residence of the Danish Royals.

Only open when the Royals are not in residence, you can explore the gardens at no cost, it’s definitely worth a visit as you envisage yourself being a royal walking through the gardens.

Walking back into the city we took time to explore the sights and sounds of the city by day, before returning back to the ship for that all important afternoon tea. Last stop tomorrow on our Scandinavian adventure is Skagen, unfortunately it looks like the weather gods have plans for us, as stormy thundery conditions loom…
